StopWaste partnered with UC Merced and the cities of Dublin and Pleasanton to conduct research measuring the soil carbon sequestration potential of compost application on city-managed sports parks. Three separate studies provide evidence that compost application reduced soil NO2 emissions, increased deep soil carbon stocks down to 1 meter, and helped mineralize the soil carbon into a more physically protected and persistent carbon pool, necessary for long term carbon sequestration.
